Event: The duathlon portion of the NY Tri Series #2, which involved a 3 mile run, 16 mile bike ride and another 3 mile run.
Date: Aug. 14, 2011 - exactly 2 months after my 1st triathlon.
Background: Under-trained for this, since I hadn't worked out in 2 weeks, and was using this race, and the 5K I did the day before, as a means of motivation to get me back into working out.
The Run - 3 miles (0:24:21)
The run starts with a gradual uphill slope, but nothing major, and then is flat for most of the way. I ran at my regular pace, and having seen last year's race results, I was just hoping that I wouldn't go too hard trying to keep up with the speedies. I was happy with the result.
My gear: Nike Free Run+ sneakers (no socks), tri-shorts (team kit), loose tank-top.
I'm still chugging along with the Nike Training Club Workout App (free download). In week 1 and week 2, I was all about the Get Toned and Get Strong workouts, but for the last 2 weeks, I've been focused on making me some abs using the Get Focused section of the workouts. And let me tell you - I'm still feeling the burn. I can feel some muscle making going on and I love it!
I didn't do much else other than the NTC workouts this week - and I almost didn't even get to that because I was feeling like there was so much to do (house renovations going on). Then, I saw the video below. Needless to say - I got my butt in gear and got stuff done!

I've really been slacking on running and working out. No motivation and just plain burnt out - or it might be that I was feeling really horrible about my 1st triathlon. Either way, I needed to do something to get back on track, so ... I signed up for a race, the Dennings Point 5K Trail Run in Beacon, NY. Since I ran this race last year (in Oct. 2010) (it was my 1st ever trail run and 3rd race), I was motivated to beat my previous time - and mission accomplished, finishing in 26:55, which is 3+ minutes faster than last year; and I placed 2nd in my age group.
