Race date: Aug. 13, 2011.
I've really been slacking on running and working out. No motivation and just plain burnt out - or it might be that I was feeling really horrible about my 1st triathlon. Either way, I needed to do something to get back on track, so ... I signed up for a race, the Dennings Point 5K Trail Run in Beacon, NY. Since I ran this race last year (in Oct. 2010) (it was my 1st ever trail run and 3rd race), I was motivated to beat my previous time - and mission accomplished, finishing in 26:55, which is 3+ minutes faster than last year; and I placed 2nd in my age group.

I've been loving getting in a morning workout with the Nike Training Club Workout App (did I mention it's a FREE download). After week 2, I've gotten into a rhythm of waking up, eating breakfast and then doing the workout, and I'm happy to say, I'm beginning to notice a more defined look to my biceps, back, and an ab muscle or 2 trying to poke out - I've been alternating the Get Toned and Get Strong workouts of the fitness app.

For my first entry into the world of triathlons, I chose the Sharon Sprint Tri on June 25, 2011, in Sharon, CT. As with most triathlon newbies, I was super nervous; and as with most people who know they haven't trained properly, I was just hoping to finish, not drown and not crash on the bike.
The Swim - 1/2 mile (0:28:39).
Shockingly I wasn't last out the water, but was so very close to it. Some people freak out from lake water, but it didn't bother me. What I had trouble with was sighting the buoys and swimming the distance! Since I had abandoned training a few weeks before this (due to burn out), it came as no surprise that I had a disastrous swim, and the only reason I didn't quit ... which I wanted to do MANY times ... was because I wouldn't be able to live it down with my family and friends. A 1/2 mile swim is far yo!!!
My gear: Wetsuit (rental), with tri-shorts (part of my triathlon team kit) & sports-bra underneath.

I HEART the Nike Training Club Workout App. It's a good thing I started using it (did I mention it's a FREE download), because running has been non-existent lately. I roll out my exercise mat in the back yard, get out the weights, and spend the next 45 minutes doing the Get Strong section of the app. It's my favorite because it makes me feel the burn - sweet pain!

As much as I love running (and biking and swimming), I've been neglecting any strength workouts, and that's not good. So, I was too happy that I was asked to try out the FREE Nike Training Club App for the next 5 weeks, and write about my experience - talk about motivation to work out!
The Nike Training Club App is a sweet tool that shows various workouts tailored to different goals: Get Lean, Toned, Strong or Focused - I'm going to be doing workouts from Get Strong and Get Toned.
