Race #6 for 2011 was Race Around Briggs, in Milan NY, on April 9th - but I'm renaming this Race Up and Down the Hills - more up than down. This 7.2 mile run was a very small race, and I thoroughly enjoyed the community spirit, but this was a TOUGH race for me - I wasn't prepared, had tummy issues and just felt uncomfortable all race long. My time: 69:57.
What I loved about this race: The challenging hills. I don't believe I'm actually saying this, but I'm looking at this "race" as a training run and hill practice.
What I did wrong: So many things. Did not hydrate enough during the week and had too much dairy which meant tummy issues & bloating. Not enough running during the week either, plus too much walking during the race, and I did not run most of the hills - I need a spanking!
What I did right: Nothing really but I don't want to be negative, so I'm going to say ... I learned some valuable lessons.
What I will do in the future: I said it after my last race, but I'll say it again - more hill training, and be more consistent in my workouts.
... and of course, I'm doing it all again this upcoming weekend for a 6.2 miler. I have now started checking the elevation maps, and I see a steep 2.2 mile long climb between miles 2 and 4.2 - uh-oh!
