Fit Things We Love FitnessNYC Style

Fit Things is a weekly wrap-up of fitness gear & beauty products that we use and love, or have heard good things about and would love to have. We focus on products that help take care of our bodies before, during and after a workout.

This week, Melissa of Fitness NYC is sharing her Fit Things with us. "When Tanya asked me to share the fit things I love, it took me a while to figure out what to pick. Then I realized that the things that are most important to me are the fitness items that make it the easiest to fit in a workout and to work out just about anywhere. Convenience is key to keeping fitness fun and possible for my schedule! So here's my list."
Shoe Wallet andf Wrist BandPortable storage ... items that make running out the door a cinch.
  • Running is great because it requires almost no equipment or planning, but you still need to bring your keys. I love wrist band, amphipod and sneaker wallets because they let me stash the easily stash essential items, such as keys, metrocard, and a few emergency dollars.

  • Fuel belts and race ready shorts are great for long runs, where you might also want to stash your phone, shot blocks and you iPod. When I bought my race ready shorts, they were all out of the regular shorts, so I had to get the spandex option, but you can get race ready shorts that are just like normal running shorts. These were one of my best purchases ever, despite being spandex.

Fit Things We Love for Tracking Our Workouts

Fit Things is a weekly wrap-up of fitness gear & beauty products that we use and love, or have heard good things about and would love to have. We focus on products that help take care of our bodies before, during and after a workout.

    Tracking Workouts
  • Nike+ iPod Sport KitNike+ iPod Sports Kit. I love being able to track my miles and being able to see them in a graphical form. Plus it integrates sticks right into my iPod, eliminating the need for an extra gadget. You do need to have an iPod (rumors say that it will work with any mp3 player at some point) and iTunes loaded on your computer, but you don't need the Nike+ running shoes because it works just as well to put it in a pouch attached to any brand sneakers (You can use a ShoeWallet mentioned in this Fit Things We Love). Get it for $37.95 at Amazon.com

  • DailyMile.com. Great way to track any workout activity - plus you can share it on Twitter and other social media sites.

  • DailyBurn.com. Dailyburn (formerly known as Gyminee) is a fitness social network for tracking, online accountability, and motivation. It allows you to find workout programs, track progress, get tips on food and nutrition, and set goals.

    Workout Accessories
  • AdidasTo get in a good workout, one needs a good pair of shoes. I cannot say enough about my Adidas! I bought my first pair about 4 years ago and will never go to another brand. I have never had a pair of workout shoes this comfortable. Right now I even have a pair that I work out in and a pair that I train others in, just because of the different needs for them.

I cannot usually find many varieties here in town, so I will get my shoes at Zappos.com (it's where I get a lot of my shoes). Great service, free shipping and free returns. Can't beat that!

  • Ipod ShuffleNext, I need to make sure I have my Ipod Shuffle. I know some people like to have the bigger ones that hold movies and tons and tons of music, but not I! First off, I am not watching movies while I am working out, so why would I need a bigger one and I only workout for 30 minutes or less, so this holds just enough variety for me to get through my workout. Plus is small and doesn't have to become a part of my arm, instead I just clip it to my shorts and hardly even notice it's there!
